Did I do my job?

Well it's been 3 weeks since we dropped Maddie off at college at the U of M.  A thousand things run through your mind when you drop off your child knowing you won't see her for almost 5 weeks and then it will only be for a few days.  You worry about whether you have done your job as a parent to prepare them to be on their own - how to be resourceful, protect themselves, respectful and be able to share a small living space with someone else without driving each other crazy and so and so on.  The technology today makes it much easier.  A short text here and there lets you know she is doing ok.  Skyping lets you see she is doing ok.  Seeing the smile on her face as she tells you about the new things she is experiencing lets you know she is doing better than ok. It's certainly better than waiting for a letter to arrive or paying the long distance phone calls.    Life at home goes on without her and you find it's a little easier to concentrate on one kid vs two on a daily basis. It's not like you forget about them but you don't have to worry about feeding them or where they are.  Time will tell if I did my job and if I did it well.
